Join us in creating a greener future for our city and our youth! Groundwork Erie’s Green Team employs and trains our youth to green our city through urban agriculture, tree planting, neighborhood clean-ups, and sustainable landscaping projects. Let’s create a greener future for Erie together!

Why give?

Erie is facing the highest child poverty rate in the state of Pennsylvania.

Erie is seeing the effects of severe weather in the forms or major snow events and warmer summers.

Simply put, our youth and our community deserve a greener, more resilient future.

Groundwork empowers our city’s youth to make changes in their own neighborhoods to make them greener & healthier. Our Green Teamers grow vegetables, plant and care for trees, plant rain gardens, pollinator gardens, and beautify vacant lots. The wages earned go to our Green Teamers. In many cases, these funds go back to support the needs of their families.

The Green Future Fund supports the work of the Green Team in 2025 and beyond. Donations will go toward wages paid to Green Team members and supervisors, supplies and tools needed for projects, transportation to and from worksites, healthy snacks, and uniforms for members. Donations allow our members to reach our 2025 goal of planting 200 native trees in neighborhoods with low tree canopy, caring for trees, harvesting and distributing hundreds of pounds of local produce, and cleaning up over 3 acres of neglected vacant lots throughout the city.
